Who discovered the X-ray?

'TODAY'S TRIVIA' in 'Scientific American' tells us that "German scientist Wilhelm Röntgen discovered the x-ray in 1895 by spotting the bones of his hand projected on the wall when he stuck it in front of a cathode ray generator."
